Presentación

Community healthcare is undergoing rapid and immense change following structural changes and reorganisation of the National Health Service in Wales. This course is fully funded by the Welsh Government and gives you an understanding of the contemporary primary and community health agenda.

The NMC states that to achieve specialist practitioner status, graduates must have achieved prescribed standards, both core and community-specific. When you successfully complete this degree, you will have a recordable specialist practice qualification in Children’s Nursing.

Requisitos

Titulo de Bachillerato or the Selectividad with an average mark of 6.
Curso de Orientación Universitaria (COU) with an average mark of 6.
Técnico Especialista (Formación Profesional – segundo grado).
Ingeniero Técnico (from Escuela de Ingeniero Técnico).
Diplomado / Diplomatura.
English language qualifications:

GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score for Undergraduate of 80 IBT
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 169 with at least 162 in each component ; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE II Distinction or ISE III Pass for undergraduate courses
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests, in some cases, we may also be able to accept the communicator level (B2)
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 51 points in each element for the majority of undergraduate programmes
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements, we run a number of courses to prepare you for academic studies

Fundamentals of Community Practice
Decision Making
Specialist Practitioner
Year Two

Core modules

The practice project involves analysing evidence based practice. Students can choose to study:

Practice project (3000 words) or
Practice project (6000 words)
Optional modules

Continuing Care across the Age Continuum
Transition
Law, ethics and nurse prescribing
Diabetes care
Minor illness for Primary Care Nurses
Long-term health conditions
Advances in epilepsy care
Optional modules will be decided at the end of year one. Students must study 60 credits per year.

N.B. Modules and module content may change from time to time.

Learning and teaching methods
You will complete 40 academic days which run from September to June. Year one requires attendance every Tuesday.

In addition you will undertake 40 clinical days per year. Ideally you should be working in a community setting, however if you are not placements maybe negotiated. While in practice, you will be assigned a mentor who will assess your clinical competence.

Teaching and learning methods include lectures, tutorials, self-directed study and workshops.

If you have undertaken the Fundamentals of Community Practice Module (30 credits) within the last five years, this can be transferred to the degree.

Undertaking this course ensures you will graduate with the knowledge, skills, competencies and capacity to provide safe and effective nursing care in community settings. Additionally, having employees with a specialist practitioner qualification is valued by nursing managers, commissioners and the Welsh Government.
