The Computing Science, Imaging and Multimedia degree programme allows you to combine your interests in video and sound processing with the technical knowledge of computing science. Throughout the course you will not only learn about the computing science that underpins imaging and multimedia, you will also study modules in the areas of music, film and TV, providing a unique creative perspective to the degree programme.

BCS Accredited Degree logoThis course is designed for applicants who wish to enter the film, media, games and entertainment industries alongside being well-equipped with modern day advanced computing science skills. The programme also has full Chartered IT Professional (CITP) accreditation as well as leading to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status from the BCS – (The Chartered Institute for IT).

The course will be taught by our academics, utilising their expertise in computer graphics, computer games development, speech and audio processing and computer vision to enhance your learning.


A Level: ABB including one subject as listed below
International Baccalaureate: 32 points including one HL subject as listed below and one other HL subject at 5
Scottish Highers: AABBB including one subject as listed below
Scottish Advanced Highers: ABB including one subject as listed below
Irish Leaving Certificate: AABBBB including one subject as listed below
Access Course: Pass the Access to HE Diploma with Distinction in 36 credits at Level 3 and Merit in 9 credits at Level 3, including 12 Level 3 credits in either Mathematics, Science or Economics
BTEC: DDM - minimum of 6 units in a science subject. BTEC IT Practitioners acceptable
European Baccalaureate: 75% overall and 70% in one subject as listed below

The School of Computing Sciences leads the university in utilizing its internationally recognized research commercially through SYS Consulting, its consulting company, and through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. Many of the projects and coursework that you will take part in use data or scenarios that come from real industry and business applications, giving you effective practical experience that can be applied in a working environment.

Depending on which specialties you studied during your degree course, you will have the necessary skills to work in many application areas of computing science, from computer games development to computer systems engineering, and many more. Our students also use their technical and entrepreneurial skills to play influential roles in the creation of companies such as Travel Republic, Evoke systems, Fyfo and Shoretech systems.
