The BSc Computing Science with a Year in Industry prepares you for a career working with rapidly changing technology, giving you a thorough understanding of the theory and practice of computing science. In addition to this you will spend your third year working on an industrial placement.
Spending a year working in industry provides you with a wide range of unique opportunities , including applying theory that you will have learnt during your first two years of study in a real industrial setting. The placement year also provides you with a range of transferrable skills that should increase your employability prospects.
The degree programme is designed to offer a broad selection of modules reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of computing. Modules are chosen according to your preferences, creating a unique and personalised academic experience During your final year you will have the opportunity to carry out an extensive research project under individual supervision from an academic with relevant expertise, allowing you to develop any specialist interests you may have.

International Baccalaureate: 32 points including one HL from the subjects listed and one other HL subject

Access Course: Pass the Access to HE Diploma with Distinction in 36 credits at Level 3 and Merit in 9 Level 3 credits, including 12 Level 3 credits in either Mathematics, Science or Economics related subjects
BTEC: DDM - minimum of 6 units in a science subject. BTEC IT Practitioners acceptable
European Baccalaureate: 75% overall with 70% in the one subject as listed below

The School of Computing Sciences leads the university in utilizing its internationally recognized research commercially through SYS Consulting, its consulting company, and through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. Many of the projects and coursework that you will take part in use data or scenarios that come from real industry and business applications, giving you effective practical experience that can be applied in a working environment.
Depending on which specialties you studied during your degree course, you will have the necessary skills to work in many application areas of computing science, from computer games development to computer systems engineering, and many more. Our students also use their technical and entrepreneurial skills to play influential roles in the creation of companies such as Travel Republic, Evoke systems, Fyfo and Shoretech systems.
