Would you like to get inside the criminal mind, to explore how and why crimes are committed, and find out how crimes are dealt with by the legal system? If you want to understand the principles and legal systems of the UK and other European states, but don’t wish to study for a qualifying law degree, then this course is ideal.

Covering two distinct areas of study, this joint Honours degree allows you to study the fundamental elements of each discipline together, enabling you to improve and broaden your knowledge base and employability.

You’ll have the opportunity to undertake work placements with organisations such as Victim Support, Citizens Advice Bureau, the Welsh Government, Women’s Aid, Detached Youth Service, and the police.

Requisitos

Titulo de Bachillerato or the Selectividad with an average mark of 6.
Curso de Orientación Universitaria (COU) with an average mark of 6.
Técnico Especialista (Formación Profesional – segundo grado).
Ingeniero Técnico (from Escuela de Ingeniero Técnico).
Diplomado / Diplomatura.
English language qualifications:

GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score for Undergraduate of 80 IBT
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 169 with at least 162 in each component ; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE II Distinction or ISE III Pass for undergraduate courses
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests, in some cases, we may also be able to accept the communicator level (B2)
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 51 points in each element for the majority of undergraduate programmes
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements, we run a number of courses to prepare you for academic studies

Programa

As a joint honours student, you will study a mix of criminology and law options throughout the course. Each year (worth 120 credits), you will be required to evenly split your module choices between the two disciplines.

This criminology and law degree is taught through a combination of lectures and discussion-based or practical seminars, which will develop your ability to form arguments and tackle specific problems. You will complete reading, library research, topic-related research, project work and preparation for presentations. We have expert, practitioner guest speakers on a number of modules and encourage students to attend British Society of Criminology (Wales and West) branch talks.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in field trips which may include working prisons and young offenders’ institutions.

Delivery

This course is available full-time and part-time. Please note that the part-time option is not available to study in evening.

he course gives you a solid foundation for professional training in social work, probation, youth justice, youth and community work and research. Other popular career routes include the police, prison service and other criminal justice agencies, as well as protection and victim support services.

From probation officers to solicitors, our recent graduates have attained positions in a variety of roles across the country. The ability to master two academic subjects demonstrates a high level of organisational skill and enables you to enter a variety of rewarding careers.

Besides gaining knowledge of two complementary subjects, you will develop key skills that employers value such as evaluating evidence and making conclusions, writing reports, the application of IT and the confidence to present logical reasoned arguments.
