Presentación

If you’re interested in studying crime, criminality, victimisation and the criminal justice system, the BSc (Hons) Criminology and Criminal Justice degree is for you. You’ll develop a critical awareness of theory and practice in criminology, and understand the social context of crime and how it is managed. You’ll also learn how agencies operate within the criminal justice system.

We have strong links with criminal justice agencies and offer modules that reflect the current nature of this subject, often inviting guest speakers to talk to you about their work. As well as volunteering opportunities, you can complete a work placement module, which could help you secure employment when you graduate.

Teaching staff run the Welsh branch of the British Society of Criminology and membership is open to our students.

Requisitos

Titulo de Bachillerato or the Selectividad with an average mark of 6.
Curso de Orientación Universitaria (COU) with an average mark of 6.
Técnico Especialista (Formación Profesional – segundo grado).
Ingeniero Técnico (from Escuela de Ingeniero Técnico).
Diplomado / Diplomatura.
English language qualifications:

GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score for Undergraduate of 80 IBT
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 169 with at least 162 in each component ; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE II Distinction or ISE III Pass for undergraduate courses
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests, in some cases, we may also be able to accept the communicator level (B2)
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 51 points in each element for the majority of undergraduate programmes

Learning and teaching methods
Most modules involve a combination of lectures and discussion-based or practical seminars, which will develop your ability to form arguments and tackle specific problems. You will also complete reading, library and topic-related research, project work, and preparation for presentations. We have expert practitioner guest speakers and encourage students to attend British Society of Criminology (Wales and West) branch talks. You will also have the opportunity to take part in field trips to working prisons and a young offenders institution.

Delivery

This course is available full-time and part-time. Please note that the part-time option is not available to study in evening

Salidas profesionales

From drug liaison officers to community development workers, graduates of our Criminology degree have attained positions in a variety of roles across the country. Many of our graduates have also progressed to postgraduate study and research in the social sciences.

This criminology degree is designed to develop a range of transferable skills that can be applied in a variety of related working environments. These include: the ability to present arguments orally, visually and in writing, the ability to analyse quantitative and qualitative data, and the ability to evaluate reports and other research publications. As a graduate with a criminology degree you will be eligible for membership of the British Society of Criminology. The Society aims to further the interests of people who are engaged in criminology in the UK. We aim to develop graduate employability.
