Subjects of study concentrate on knowledge of English language structure, words and their meanings, and an understanding of different texts and genres.
YEAR 2 (CREDIT LEVEL 5)
Subjects of study include the history of English, varieties of English around the world, and discourse analysis.
YEAR 3 (CREDIT LEVEL 6)
Subjects of study include Englishes of the British Isles, language and gender, and a close study of the language of a specific author.
Linguistics
YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2 (CREDIT LEVELS 4 AND 5)
Subjects of study include introduction to linguistics, language in society, literary linguistics, phonetics (articulatory and auditory), semantics (meaning of words and sentences and theory of meaning), and syntax (grammatical knowledge and theory of grammar).
YEAR 3 (CREDIT LEVEL 6)
Subjects of study include child language acquisition, translation theory, psycholinguistics, phonology (sound systems and theory of sound systems) and advanced syntactic theory.
