There is a pressing need for people with knowledge of environmental implications who can use their expertise to help countries and communities to develop. Human societies depend on their physical and natural environment for their livelihoods and wellbeing, and development is essential to alleviate poverty and improve living conditions. This degree programme will give you the skills to not only carry out this development, but also ensure that it is sustainable.

This innovative three year degree programme, offered jointly by the School of Environmental Sciences and School of International Development, is renowned for its quality and teaching acumen. In the 2012 National Student Survey, this course was given a 100% satisfaction rating by current students, with the teaching also achieving a perfect score.


Qualification: BSc (Hons)
A Level: ABB including one Science based subject
International Baccalaureate: 32 points including one HL subject in Science at 5 from the preferred list and one other HL subject at 5
Scottish Highers: AABBBB including one Science
Scottish Advanced Highers: ABB including one Science
Irish Leaving Certificate: AABBBB including one Science
Access Course: Pass the Access to HE Diploma with Distinction in 36 Level 3 credits and 9 at Merit, including 12 Level 3 Science credits.
BTEC: DDM in relevant subject area, with at least 6 units in one Science
European Baccalaureate: 75% overall, with at least 70% in one Science

As concern over climate change increases, so too do jobs aimed at reducing the damage of human activity. As a School, 88.4% of our undergraduates, who were available for work, found work or study within six months of leaving.

Our students graduate with skills in environmental sciences that can be applied to a variety of international industries, including meteorology, environmental politics, soil science, and energy resources to name a few.
