The business world is increasingly globally focused. This part-time online degree will equip you with a wide range of skills to begin a successful career in global business management, or help you to progress your existing career.
You will have the opportunity to gain a strong understanding of organisations, their management, the economy and the business environment from a global perspective. You will develop new skills in marketing, management, finance, project management, operations management and human resources, so that when you graduate you have a wide set of globally-relevant skills applicable to many different areas of business.
This course is delivered entirely online so is ideal for those who live or work some distance from Bournemouth and international students who are unable to attend the university in person.
It also appeals to Armed Forces personnel stationed overseas or considering their resettlement options. The course has been developed in conjunction with the MOD. It is approved by ELCAS enabling Armed Forces personnel to off-set the majority of the course fees through the ELC Scheme.
There are flexible entry and exit points so if you’re not interested in a full honours degree, you can still gain a nationally recognised qualification such as a Certificate of Higher Education in Global Business Management or a Diploma of Higher Education in Global Business Management.
This course requires a Foundation Degree with 55% or above in a required subject including in Business Management, Accounting, Project Management, Global Management or International Management.
If your application suggests you do not have the relevant qualifications and skills for this top-up degree but could enter the course at a different level, we will advise you of this during the application process.
GCSEs: This course requires GCSE English and Mathematics grade C (or grade 4 in the reformed GCSE grading) or equivalent qualifications.
Numeracy and literacy: We need to be sure that you can express yourself in written English and have basic numeracy skills. We look at Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework, which includes GCSEs, Key Skills and Functional Skills Level 2. If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you can understand English to a satisfactory level. English language requirements for this course are normally:
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each component, or equivalent.
On this course you will be taught by a range of staff with relevant expertise and knowledge appropriate to the content of the unit. This will include senior academic staff and qualified professional practitioners.
Global Strategy: This unit will encourage you to develop the intellectual and professional attributes needed for strategic analysis, to make appropriate choices between alternative strategies, and then to implement the chosen strategies with the desired results. The unit aims to provide you with a critical understanding of the tools and frameworks available for analysing strategic management issues at both national and global levels.
The Global Manager: Drawing on elements of international HRM and cross-cultural management, this unit is designed to develop a critical awareness of the challenges of working and managing in a global context. The unit aims to develop your understanding of global management policies, practices and processes, as utilised by multinational and transnational organisations in the context of a dynamic, globalised world.
Global Marketing: You will develop the ability to critically theoretical frameworks both for the analysis of global marketing environments and for the development of marketing programmes within them, and apply analytical skills to explore the issues arising from different global market situations.
Business Leadership: This unit will explore leadership theories and followership concepts. It considers the nature of leadership, leadership versus management, power, politics and conflict, and various traditional and contemporary models and perspectives of leadership.
Our business graduates work in various roles in a wide number of sectors. This course is designed to prepare you for a job in any organisation, large or small, and in any sector. In fact, 85% of our business graduates are in work or study six months after graduating, of which 80% are in professional or managerial positions, earning an average salary of £26,000 a year.
