Those studying medical physics or radiotherapy are commonly known as medical physics technologists. Medical physics technologists play a central role in today’s technologically sophisticated health care system. Specialising in radiotherapy, students will work within a multi-disciplinary team, alongside doctors and other healthcare professionals, to deliver the most advanced techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of disease utilising isotopes and radiation in its various forms.
GCSE profiles need to include a minimum of 5 passes including Welsh/English Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science or Double Award Science at Grade A-C.
Candidates also require a minimum of: BBB at A2 level. One of which must be in Physics or Mathematics.

Access: Distinction and Merit profile against the rules of combination.
Welsh baccalaureate: Pass and either BC at A2 level (at least one A2 in maths or physics) or DD at BTEC
Irish Leaving Certificate: 345

Students who´s first language is not English may require an IELTS test minimum score of 7.0.

Employment prospects in radiotherapy physics are excellent. Employment opportunities exist in the NHS, in the private sector and in research and development.

Almost all of the previous graduates of the healthcare sciences have gone on to work in their chosen profession in the NHS, mainly in Wales but also in England. These students typically commence work in Band 5 Practitioner roles. Significant proportions of our graduates now work in Band 6 and Band 7 (specialist) roles.
