Climate change? The rise of China? Security and terrorism? What are the issues facing your future? Understanding the international system and global politics means being able to express an informed view about these questions.

This degree programme is designed to widen your horizons by bringing together the study of a modern language (French, Spanish or Japanese) and international relations. It has strong emphasis on preparing you for the world of work by developing transferable skills and gaining experience through, work placements, internships and shadowing opportunities. It will widen your horizons and prepare you for the world of work.

The third year of this course is spent abroad gaining work experience and/ or studying in a country where your chosen language is spoken.

Graduates of international relations and of languages go into a wide range of occupations in the public, private and third sectors including international organisations, non-governmental organisations, multinational corporations, the media and journalism, marketing, and, not least, translation and interpretation.

Qualification: BA (Hons)
A Level: ABB including French, Spanish or Japanese at GCSE or A level
International Baccalaureate: 32 including 5 in Higher Level or Standard Level French, Spanish or Japanese
Scottish Highers: At least one Advanced Higher preferred in addition to Highers
Scottish Advanced Highers: ABB including French, Spanish or Japanese at Advanced Higher or Higher Level
Irish Leaving Certificate: AABBBB including standard or advanced level French, Spanish or Japanese
Access Course: Please contact the University for further information
BTEC: DDM including French, Spanish or Japanese at GCSE or A level
European Baccalaureate: 75% including 70% in French, Spanish or Japanese
