Microbiologists are at the forefront of biological research and biotechnology across a vast and diverse range of topics. This four year degree programme focuses on the advanced study of concepts underpinning modern molecular approaches to microbiology, as well as training you in experimental scientific techniques.
The course comprises of a comprehensive teaching programme which allows you to study microbes in depth, exploring the most diverse group of organisms on the planet and studying their ecological, physiological, pathological, biochemical, and genetic characteristics. By studying this MSci integrated undergraduate Master’s course, you will gain cutting-edge knowledge, highly developed practical skills and a demonstrated ability to work independently.
You will also learn about the roles of microorganisms in beneficial and harmful bio-geochemical processes, their beneficial and pathogenic associations with humans, animals and plants, and as the source of numerous valuable products and processes, including antibiotics and anticancer compounds.
A Level: ABB to include Biology
International Baccalaureate: 32 points including HL Biology at 5 and one other HL subject at 5
Scottish Highers: AABBB to include Biology and one other science subject
Scottish Advanced Highers: Highers ABB to include Biology. Other Sciences at Advanced Higher level would confer an advantage
Irish Leaving Certificate: AABBBB at Higher Level including Biology and at least two other science subjects
Access Course: Pass the Access to HE Diploma with Distinction in 36 credits at Level 3 and Merit in 9 credits at Level 3, including 12 Level 3 credits in Biology
BTEC: DDM in a relevant subject, with at least 6 units of Biology
European Baccalaureate: 75% overall with at least 70% in Biology
