The aim of this course is to prepare and develop registered nurses and midwives to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) professional standards for specialist community public health nurses (Health Visiting, School Nursing or Sexual Health Adviser) and is suitable for those who wish to develop a career in public health nursing. The course content covers the four principles of public health practice and students will be involve in: the search for health needs; the stimulation of awareness of health needs; the influences on policy affecting health; the facilitation of health enhancing activities. The course comprises 50% theory and 50% practice. Assessment methods vary and include examinations, essays and presentations.
