Presentación

This is a specialist course, which emphasises highly creative textile design for fashion, interiors and personal expression and celebrates the use of both traditional and sophisticated new technology. You´ll develop textile design skills and gain an in-depth understanding of a constantly changing industry.

You´ll exhibit your work in the final year Degree Show - our festival of creativity that provides you with the opportunity to showcase your work, as well as make vital industry contacts.
You could also go on to study our MA Fashion and Textiles.

Requisitos

Our entry requirements are usually 260 UCAS points, of which at least 220 will be from your core A2s (full A levels) or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Diploma, International Baccalaureate, Scottish Highers etc.
We´ll accept up to 40 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS levels (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project or Music qualifications.
We don´t accept points from Key Skills Level 3. If you have any questions about what is or isn´t accepted, please contact our Admissions team.
We also accept the Access to HE Diploma.
Your points at level 3 will be in addition to 5 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent level 2 qualifications.
The UCAS tariff points are a guide - we´ll also consider all the information that you´ve included in your application, your portfolio, and how you´ve done in your interview. We´ll also want to see that you´re enthusiastic and motivated to take this course and that you have the potential to benefit from coming to university.

Programa

Stage one
You´ll be introduced to the basic skills of print, knit, weave, pattern cutting and manufacturing skills.
You´ll study modules such as:
Contextual Studies 1
Design for Textiles
Introduction to Fashion and Textiles
Visual Studies for Fashion and Textiles
Stage two
You´ll learn how to design on advanced CADCAM systems in print, knit and weave, before deciding on a particular field of design to study.
Your work will be project based, giving you the chance for personal expression. You will also work on national competition briefs and live projects.
If you want to gain work experience, you can take an optional work placement between stages two and three during which you´ll study an additional qualification, the Diploma in Professional Practice.

Stage three
You´ll work on personal projects that demonstrate your independence as a designer and help you to gain confidence for employment. The Degree Show exhibition will give you the opportunity to develop your ideas into product prototypes for fashion or interior collections.

Textiles is a global industry and offers you many opportunities to travel as part of your career. This course will prepare you for an exciting career in printed, knitted or woven textiles working as a designer and also in a variety of roles such buyer, merchandiser, stylist or illustrator in a wide range of organisations associated with the international textile industry.
Some graduates have gone on to work on a freelance basis in their chosen specialist field, establishing their own workshops, websites and companies. During your course you can take advantage of our mentoring schemes, which are designed to help young entrepreneurs to establish themselves.
We also provide support for graduates starting out in the creative industries, through our incubation unit - Banks Mill. It offers studio workspace and business development activities, in a vibrant and thriving community of artists, designers and makers.
