Presentación

During this course you will cover a range of essential psychology and criminology topics which will allow you to explore key aspects of psychology with criminology and gain a comprehensive understanding of the discipline. The emphasis of your studies is very much about developing key transferable skills and knowledge that will not only provide you with a recognised qualification but prepare you for further study, leading you directly onto Year Two of the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Criminology.

There is also an element of personal development built into the course which aims to further develop study skills specific to psychology and help you grow in confidence throughout your studies as you build your very own reflective skills portfolio.

Requisitos

Titulo de Bachillerato or the Selectividad with an average mark of 6.
Curso de Orientación Universitaria (COU) with an average mark of 6.
Técnico Especialista (Formación Profesional – segundo grado).
Ingeniero Técnico (from Escuela de Ingeniero Técnico).
Diplomado / Diplomatura.
English language qualifications:

GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score of 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score for Undergraduate of 80 IBT
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 169 with at least 162 in each component ; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE II Distinction or ISE III Pass for undergraduate courses
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests, in some cases, we may also be able to accept the communicator level (B2)
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 51 points in each element for the majority of undergraduate programmes
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements, we run a number of courses to prepare you for academic studies

Programa

You will study two psychology modules; one focusing on research methods and theoretical approaches to psychology and one introducing you to social, developmental, biological and cognitive psychology. We will consider questions such as why we remember some things and forget others, how different areas of our brain influence behaviour and how we develop language. You will have an opportunity to acquire some hands-on skills in research by conducting experiments in your research methods classes.

Criminology modules
40 credits from the following options:

Understanding Crime, Criminals and Victims
Understanding Criminal Justice
Criminological Theory
Study skills module
You will also be required to undertake a further 10 credit module:

Enhancing Academic success (10 Credit)
Learning and teaching methods
The course is delivered through lectures, seminars, workshops, individual/small group supervision and independent study. You will also have the opportunity to attend guest lectures given by academic staff from other institutions and professional psychologists who work in different areas of practise.

Salidas profesionales

A Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) is a higher education qualification awarded in UK universities following successful completion of one year of full-time study (or equivalent). This CertHE in Psychology with Criminology, a recognised qualification in its own right, is the equivalent to one year of undergraduate study at the University of South Wales.

This means on successful completion of this certificate course you’ll be able to continue onto the second year of the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Criminology degree or finish your studies with a certificate qualification valued by employers.
