Presentación

Civil engineers design, construct, manage and improve our environment. They develop our infrastructure and have a profound effect on the way we live through a consideration of function, aesthetics, economics and sustainability.

City University London´s BEng Civil Engineering degree course provides a strong technical background in the key subjects of structural, geotechnical and hydraulic engineering, management studies and design.

Specialist subjects such as surveying, transportation, environmental and building engineering are studied, with residential field trips for geology and surveying.

The course is delivered as a combination of lectures, projects supported by industry and coursework, much of which relates to laboratory experiments.

Requisitos

For entry in 2014

Typical offers require one of the following:
´A´ Level: 320 UCAS tariff points including ´A´ Level Mathematics at grade B.
BTEC: Typically DDD, plus ´A´ Level Mathematics at grade B.
IB: 30 points including Mathematics and a science at Higher Level.
14-19 Advanced Diploma: Engineering at grade B/250 points; ´A´ Level Mathematics at grade B/100 points.
Information on entry requirements from our specific Engineering Foundation courses is available on request.

Pre-requisites

Mathematics GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent).

Programa

Year one

In year one, you will study fundamental engineering principles in topics such as structural mechanics, hydraulics, materials and mathematics. You will also focus on geology and civil engineering practice and will learn basic skills in surveying and IT. During the first year of the BEng Civil Engineering course, you will develop the skills and techniques required to plan and present your own solution to an architectural design brief.

Year two

The fundamental principles learnt in year one are applied to the analysis and design of steel and concrete structures, the prediction of the mechanical behaviour of soil and the mechanics of fluids. You will learn more about managing construction projects and surveying and develop an architectural design brief for a significant project.

You have the option to transfer to the MEng course if your overall mark is 60 per cent or above at the end of year two.

Final year

In the final year, you will focus on the analysis and design of typical geotechnical and hydraulic structures, numerical analysis techniques used in structural design and construction law, contracts and economics.

You will undertake an individual project with an architectural design component and provide architectural input to an intensive design project.
