Principles of Set Design
This unit provides advanced and systematic understanding in the fundamental principles of set design and build, green screen, storyboarding, visualisation and model-making, with reference to both single camera and multi-camera studio production. You will develop an appreciation of historical period styles, architecture, film and television culture and language, and use of appropriate software. Students undertaking this unit will work collaboratively with students on the other courses including producers, directors and cinematographers.
Design on Location
This unit will build on the underlying principles and learning delivered in the first semester to address specifically the management of design for location filming, incorporating a comprehensive understanding of project management of design, set-dressing, and art direction.
Students undertaking this unit will work collaboratively with students on the other courses including producers, directors and cinematographers on live briefs to apply the principles learned previously within real-world constraints. You will learn the protocols of professional engagement as designers, combining aesthetic judgement with location management and problem-solving strategies to ensure that you have the skills required for employability in the film and television industries.
