This course is part of the Business School´s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme, which is designed to enable you to maintain your knowledge and skills related to your professional life.

The MSc Professional Development (Loss Adjusting) has been developed in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) and provides an opportunity for eligible CILA members to ‘top-up’ their existing professional CILA qualifications in order to obtain a Master´s (MSc) qualification.

To complete this course, you need to be a Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) Associate or Fellow Member.

The content of the MSc Professional Development (Loss Adjusting) is open and flexible as you can choose the extended project or from a selection of units from the range of Master´s Level units offered by BU’s Business School.

    Extended project
The Extended Project provides you with an opportunity to undertake a significant piece of self-managed research in a relevant area of particular interest. It is likely that most students will use this unit to consolidate experience and practice gained from real work-based problem situations. Assessment is by means of a 30,000 word project. The project may be structured as a single extended project, or two (smaller) independent projects.

You will be assigned a supervisor to mentor and guide you through the process of producing an extended project. In addition, a two-day workshop will be provided at the beginning of the unit to provide you with the relevant knowledge and expertise to help you undertake this piece of work.

    Selection of units
The alternative to the extended project is for you to select a number of individual units which together account for 120 credits. Units are typically 20 or 40 credits, so you will need to complete between 3 and 6 units to top-up to the MSc.

Units can be selected from the MSc Professional Development course. This includes:

    Work-Based Learning (20 or 40 credits)
    Subject Contemporary Issues (20 credits)
    Subject Fundamentals (20 credits)
Alternatively, you can choose units from the MBA. Each requires attendance of up to six days of taught sessions in Bournemouth at the Executive Business Centre. 20 credit units available:

    Accounting and Financial Management
    Leadership and Organisational Behaviour
    Performance Management and Analytics
Contemporary Issues in the Global Business Environment
    Entrepreneurship Management
    Business Law and Intellectual Property
    Advanced Marketing
    Industrial Economics
    Financial Services
    Business in New Media Environments
    Strategic Management
    Plus a 40 credit unit:

    Research Project or Consultancy
Assessment will vary by unit and may be based on an exam or coursework or a combination of the two.
