Presentación

The MSc Sports Coaching is for you if you work within the sport and coaching industry or have an undergraduate degree with some coaching experience.

The MSc in Sports Coaching has been devised to provide you with an advanced base of knowledge that will give you the best possible opportunity for pursuing your career goals within sport and the coaching industry. You will further your understanding of the coaching process through a combination of the theoretical and practical elements of the programme. You will develop a critical understanding of sport coaching through the examination of underpinning theories, concepts, models, project management and research skills.

Additional benefits of this postgraduate sports coaching course include the opportunity to work with high performance coaches and athletes from the sport performance unit. The structure and teaching delivery is primarily distance learning, enabling you to study and work in tandem.

Requisitos

Licenciado/Título de Ingeniero/Título de Arquitecto with an average of 6.0-6.9, Aprobado or above

English language qualifications:
GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above
IELTS with an average overall score 6.5 with at least a 5.5 in each component
TOEFL IBT minimum score 88
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): exams taken from January 2015 – overall score of 176 with at least 162 in each component; exams taken before January 2015 – Grade C and no less than borderline in each skill
Trinity College English Language qualifications: ISE III Pass for postgraduate taught courses and research applications
City and Guild’s IESOL/ISESOL tests at expert and mastery levels (C2 and C1) for the majority of postgraduate programmes
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum of 67 points in each elemen
Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements, we run a number of courses to prepare you for academic studies.

Programa

The Coaching Process
On this module you will examine the theory behind the coaching process. This will help you further your understanding of the coaching environment in which you work.

Philosophy and Ethics of Sports Coaching
This module will provide a backdrop to the concept that coaching is a developing profession and, as such there is a need for participants to understand the diverse nature and complexity of issues relating to all sports coaching.

Research Methods and Project Management Skills for use in Organisations
You will develop both academic research and project management skills throughout this module.

Sports Science for Coaching
This module will further develop a comprehensive understanding of the application of sport science in order to maximise both coaching and athletic performance.

Applied Professional Practice
This module provides you with coaching experience and the guidance of a mentor through a coaching placement. Our links with Newport Gwent Dragons Rugby, Celtic Manor Resort, Welsh Cycling Union, Welsh Netball and others mean you will have many opportunities to gain the coaching placement that will benefit you most. However, you may choose your current coaching role for the placement if you have an appropriate mentor.

Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Consultancy
This module will develop an understanding of how your own approaches, guidelines and skills for being an entrepreneurial manager in the sports business environment can be developed, incorporating entrepreneurial creativity and awareness to turn opportunities into viable projects or outcomes.

Masters Stage
Dissertation – 20,000 word research project.

Awards are available at Postgraduate Certificate level (after completion of three modules) and Postgraduate Diploma level (after completion of the other three modules). The only stipulation is the Coaching Process module must be completed in the Certificate Stage.

Learning and teaching methods
Time on campus in lectures is in blocks of 2-3 days every 6-8 weeks and in addition, independent study and distance learning is undertaken. If you choose part-time study this can be spread out over the period of study.
