This part-time/flexible learning BEng Engineering course is designed for practicing engineers who are already qualified to HND, FdEng, FdSc or degree level who want to gain the academic qualifications necessary to achieve Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status. Applicants for this programme must be employed in a relevant role in the Engineering industry.
You can cover subjects at BEng level such as advanced stress and vibration, business development, manufacturing operations, mechatronics and computational engineering. Should you choose to go on to the MEng level your knowledge will be deepened and broadened through subjects such as project management, design management, life cycle analysis, control system design and materials failure and prevention.
This is an incredibly flexible way to study, with a number of core units complemented by optional units, allowing you to tailor your course to suit the needs of your employer and your long-term career plans. We also offer an Integrated Masters (MEng) which requires a further 18 months study.
Subjects are taught by flexible learning, and you will be supported throughout your study with discussion forums. Academic tutorial attendance is required typically three times for each unit of study. Subjects are assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations which will be submitted electronically.
Entry to Level 6: students who have successfully completed the FdEng, FdSc Engineering (Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Management or Electronic Design) programmes at Bournemouth & Poole College with a minimum classification of Merit will be eligible to apply for entry with advanced standing to the Level 6 of the MEng (Hons) Engineering programme at Bournemouth University and credited with 120 credits at Level 4 and 120 credits at Level 5.
Numeracy and Literacy requirement: GCSE English and Mathematics grade 4 (or grade C in the old grading system). We also accept iGCSEs, Key Skills and Functional Skills and other qualifications at Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework.
Additionally, other applicants to Level 6 require either:
A FdEng, FdSc or HND with Merit in an engineering discipline accredited to EngTech or partial IEng.

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you can understand English to a satisfactory level. English language requirements for this course are normally:
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each component, or equivalent.
On this course you will be taught by a range of staff with relevant expertise and knowledge appropriate to the content of the unit. This will include senior academic staff, qualified professional practitioners, demonstrators, technicians and research students.

When you graduate, you’ll be equipped to take on a range of engineering roles across the manufacturing and engineering sectors and our graduate employment record in this field is excellent, with 95% of our full-time Mechanical Engineering students in work or further study within six months of finishing their course.
